I'm trying to read primary collision information from Pythia into Geant4. Do I need to use HepMC to do this?

I've been looking in /examples/extended/eventgenerator/ and it seems like the examples in that folder all use Pythia6 (Fortran). I tried downloading HepMC and trying to run the HepMCEx01 example, but I keep getting the error:

HEPMC_DIR not defined in the environment ! Requires HepMC release 1.27.

I'm using Cygwin.

In the README for HepMCEx01, it says that I need HepMC, version 1.27 or greater, and proper path defined in $HEPMC_DIR.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jonathan
