Hello,

This depends on media. If you have low-energy neutron projectile then energy deposition is above kinetic energy practically in any media. If you have high energy proton then mean energy deposition is always below primary energy.

If you need to check energy balance you need to analyze all products including nuclear fragments and take into account target nuclear mass.
