Question Segmentation Fault at start of simulation

Forum: Physics List
Date: 25 Nov, 2010
From: Nicolas Maurissen <Nicolas Maurissen>

Hi everyone !

I hope this is the right place to post this. I'm a new Geant4 user (unfortunately also in C++ and Unix environment) and I need some help.

My simulation's aim is, as an exercice to learn how to use Geant4 toolkit, to simulate an 3" NaI cristal inside a thin Aluminum can and acquire a Gamma Spectrum (in an ASCII file) for several sources (different radioisotopes and geometries).

I built my geometry with MOMO, and the other cards (PhysicsList, etc) with help of some exemples bundled with Geant4 (mainly the Novices and electromagnetics). The compilation is successful despite three Warning like :

/home/Natsu/Geant4/include/G4RunManager.hh: In member function ‘void G4RunManager::SetRandomNumberStoreDir(const G4String&)’: /home/Natsu/Geant4/include/G4RunManager.hh:357: warning: ignoring return value of ‘int system(const char*)’, declared with attribute warn_unused_result

but when I execute my simulation, I get a Segmentation Fault directly after the "Geant4 Version name (...) title. When I use gdb to obtain more informations, I get this :

 Geant4 version Name: geant4-09-03-patch-02    (17-September-2010)
                      Copyright : Geant4 Collaboration
                      Reference : NIM A 506 (2003), 250-303
                            WWW :

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00371216 in G4VUserPhysicsList::CheckParticleList() () from /home/Natsu/Geant4/lib/Linux-g++/ (gdb) bt

#0  0x00371216 in G4VUserPhysicsList::CheckParticleList() () from /home/Natsu/Geant4/lib/Linux-g++/

#2  0x0035c552 in G4RunManager::InitializePhysics() () from /home/Natsu/Geant4/lib/Linux-g++/
#3  0x0035c32e in G4RunManager::Initialize() () from /home/Natsu/Geant4/lib/Linux-g++/
#4  0x08048f48 in main ()

Can anyone help me about this ?

Thanks a lot
