The version of Geant4 is 4.9.2.p01 and I am using the QGSP_BIC_HP hadronic model. The error message not a G4 error. It is part of our code which flags a recoil nucleus at a primary interaction which shouldn't be there (by my estimation of what reactions should be taking place).

Nevertheless, I solved my problem. I forgot that the volume of air present contains a finite percentage of Ar which accounts for the appropriate recoil nuclei (mainly through (gamma, alpha), (gamma,d) and (gamma,p) reactions.

Thank you for your interest anyway.
