In my PhD project I assess the feasibility of the new PET scanner for an proton in-beam PET. I use GATE software(GATE ver. 8.1, Geant4 ver. 10.4) for simulations.
For this purpose I tried to use PBS beam and QGSP_BERT_HP_EMY physics list with additional RadioactiveDecay option to include radioactive decay of PET beta+ emitters. The problem I found is that even I can see beta+ emitters like C-11 or O-15 they are not obey the Radioactive Decay at all. I tried to add the G4RadioactiveDecayProcess class to the QGSP_BERT_HP_EMY list and recompile Geant and GATE but it does not work.
In the second approach I produced the beta+ emitters maps as described in previous approach (Radioactive decay was not used). Produced maps are then used as a sources of a second step of simulation where I used emstandard_opt3 physics list with radioactive decay and the radioactive decay work. (It suggest me some problem with physics from Geant4 point of view in one step method). Unless, the problem with this approach is that we are loosing the time information needed to distinguish between the in-beam and inter-spill phase.
Is there any conflict between QGSP_BERT_HP_EMY and Radioactive Decay which I didn't find so far? Would you have any suggestion how to include radioactive decay into first approach.
I emailed Gate Users mailing list also but have not get any response yet.
I would appreciate any help/suggestion with this matter.
