If you're using optical surfaces, be sure that there is no gap between the scintillator and the wall. Otherwise, if the optical photons enter a medium without a refractive index, they're killed. I _think_ that the best way to do this is to avoid defining a wall object (unless it's required), and simply define the optical surface between the air / mother volume & the scintillator.
