Question Absorption units in OpNovice

Forum: Processes Involving Optical Photons
Date: 01 Nov, 2017
From: Jaiver Salazar <Jaiver Salazar >

Hello!

I am working with optical photons for a thesis and i need to know how calculate the absorption values that are present in the detector construction in the example OpNovice. I know that the absorption coefficient, alpha, is related to the extinction coefficient k and the energy or wavelength of the incident photon, but the units are of longitude^-1 (m^-1,cm^-1,mm^-1) so.. why in the detector construction the units are in meters(m)?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.
