After more investigations, it is apparent that this simulation works if the index of refraction of the G4Box is chosen such that the Cerenkov angle is less than the critical angle for total internal reflection. Once I hit the critical angle, the simulation hangs. The volume is a thin microscope slide and as far as I can calculate, totally reflecting of one face should not cause the photons to indefinitely reflect.

Is there a method to limit the number of steps taken by an opticalphoton to investigate why total internal reflection on the one surface is causing my simulation to hang?
