I'm attempting to implement a WLS fibre embedded in scintillating material to transport photons to a detector. Between the scintillator and the fibre there is a gap volume which can be filled with either air or water.
When I run the simulation with water, approximately twice the number of photons enter the fibre (as compared to air), but the number of photons actually hitting the detector is about half (as compared to air). Based on their index of refraction, I would expect more photons to be hitting the detector for water than for air.
I currently have the volumes nested (gap within scintillator, fibre within gap), and am not implementing any optical surfaces between them. I'm a relatively new user of Geant4, is there something else I have to do to see the expected photon behavior?
