 Dear Peter, normally (i.e. in every source I found, e.g. http://academic.reed.edu/physics/courses/Physics323.s09/pdf/Lecture16.pdf , the Fresnel equations contain the refractive indices of both materials forming the boundary. (Except for Fowlers 'Introduction to Modern Optics', but he seems to use N = n_1 / n_2, as he gives Snell's Law as N = sin(a_2) / sin(a_1) one page before the Fresnel equations ( http://books.google.de/books?id=SL1n9TuJ5YMC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Fowles+Introduction+to+Modern+Optics&source=bl&ots=DouIdpwb7D&sig=t5MMgmXGgjZiBMA-Q7mqV0CCmRo&hl=de&sa=X&ei=AoFZUJi4EKmm4gTXxoG4CQ&ved=0CDYQ6wEwAA#v=onepage&q=Fowles%20Introduction%20to%20Modern%20Optics&f=false page 166)) For dielectric_dielectric this has also been implemented in Geant4 and the reflectivity is calculated from both refractive indices. I would be very surprised, if the reflectivity of a dielectric_metal surface did not depend on both refractive indices. Best regards, Erik
