Question case when child volume not entirely inside mother volume

Forum: Processes Involving Optical Photons
Date: 01 Jul, 2012
From: Athreya Shankar <Athreya Shankar>

Hello all,

I have a scintillator volume, in which I place some fibers, such that the fibers are only half inside the scintillator, ie., they are meant to be placed in semi-circular grooves. So, one half of each of the fibers is in contact with the scintillator while the other half is in contact with the "world" volume. To simulate a Tyvek wrapping, I set the surface between scintillator and world as groundbackpainted, and also the surface between each fiber and the world also groundbackpainted.

However, only the surface between the scintillator and the world is behaving as expected, while the photons are escaping into the world volume through the fibers.

I would like to know what is wrong in my approach, and how to rectify the mistakes.

Thanks in advance,

Athreya
