Hi Athreya,

It's been a while since we wrote this example....

1) Your are correct. We are not looping over all PMT but only over those that have had at least one photon hit. However, there isn't any information in any of the PMT that haven't seen a photon, except that their hit count is zero. So, we are really just splitting hair here.

2) pmts=PHC->entries() returns the number of PMTs that where hit >0, but each PMT can be hit by more than one photon. (*PHC)[i]->GetPhotonCount() returns you the number of photos that hit the PMT with hit-index I.

You are probably confused assuming that each photon hitting a PMT will produce its own G4HIT - which is the usual way sensitive detector hits in G4 are collected. But that's not how this example is written. In LXe a new hit is only booked with the hits collection if it is with a PMT that had previously not yet seen light. If it's a PMT with a G4HIT already, that G4HIT is accessed and a 'photon hit counter' of the G4HIT is incremented.

Hope this explains it, Peter
