I am following the wls example to model a wls fiber embedded within a scintillator slab. The wls fiber works properly for incident optical photons. For trial purposes, I set my scintillator material to vacuum just to check thee working of the wls fiber. Now, with the same geometry, I tried an electron, incident on the wls fiber just to see what happens. I am getting strange results. I have not set the scintillation yield for the 2 claddings and the fiber core material. Nor have I set the fast ans slow components. Yet, the scintillation process is invoked, and photons are generated. Shouldn't the scintillation process be invoked only when I set the above parameters?
Further, once I comment out the refractive index properties for the claddings and the core, no photons are generated, but the scintillation process is still invoked.
Also, if I change the scintillation yield also, there is no effect as lots of photons (close to 100) are generated even for a 1 MeV electron, when I set the scintillation yield to 1 MeV. Also, once I try to use an incident proton or gamma, instead of an incident electron, no photons are generated.
Could you please tell me what corrections to implement to rectify this problem? Is this a problem with my Physics List? I am using QGSP_BIC with OpticalPhysics.
