hi Sam, thanks for your quick reply. yes that logic is in the file. I also tried the following logic:

 if(aStep->GetPreStepPoint()->GetPhysicalVolume()->GetName()=="A"&& aStep->GetPostStepPoint()->GetPhysicalVolume()->GetName()=="DummyDet")

instead of


followed by the rest of the code. But even here the number of photons counted is way above what is generated. the only way I can count the photons correctly is to count how many are leaving the dummy detector into the expHall. I can't understand why I cant count them as and when they enter the dummy detector.

The dummy detector is made of vacuum. Won't the photons undergo only transportation? I agree that the "vacuum" also actually has certain amount of matter. But, as I'm using universe_mean_density, won't the photon interaction be very negligible?
