Click on the Forum title, e.g. on the "Forums by Category" page, to read a sequence of postings to the Forum and its threads all in one page. If you are only interested in one thread or the thread following a specific posting, click the thread or the posting, which takes you to a smaller page, which contains only the part you are interested in and may be easier to navigate.
Messages are "chained" if there are only replies at the first level, i.e. 1/1.html, 1/1/1.html etc. In case of "chained" messages the message number is replaced by the icon and there is no indentation.
Inline: Display the subject line only or also the text of the posting(s); for the choice "All" the "Outline" choices are switched off.
|1||0||1||no text / full text of posting|
|2||1||All||text for level 1 only / text for All postings|
Outline: Choose the depth of the posting thread, successive toggle controls provide increasing detail.
|1||2||1||2 levels / 1 level (original posting)|
|2||3||2||3 levels / 2 levels|
|3||3||All||3 levels / all levels (all postings)|
Thanks for posting your question. I understand that begining to use Geant4 can seem very hard for a new user, especially one who does not come from a software background. This occurs because Geant4 is so flexible and gives you infinite options. In practice, the way most users solve this is that they never actually start an entirely fresh application. Instead, they start from one of the many example applications that are provided with Geant4, and then they just learn how to perturb that application a little bit at a time until they arrive at what they want.
Along the way, this and the other Geant4 forums are absolutely available for you to post your questions and get help from the Geant4 developers and from other members of the user community.
Have you done the basic installation? The online installation guide, FAQ and forum are available to help.
If you'd like to work through a fairly comprehensive set of tutorial lectures all about Geant4, there are several resources available on the web. One good example would be the tutorial that some of us gave earlier this year in Helsinki: http://www.hip.fi/geant4/workshop05/program.html
Anyway, the thing to do first is to pick one of the existing examples that seems at least a little like what you want to do, and learn to run and understand that example.
