Question Windows Cmake cannot find C/C++ compiler, but it's installed

Forum: Installation and Configuration

From: Tom Roberts <Tom Roberts>

As my Windows 7 environment is now too old a C++ compiler to build geant4.10.03, I'm trying to set up a Windows 10 environment.

 - install Visual Studio 2015
 - install Cmake 3.8.0
 - copy geant4.10.03 source into my home
 - run Cmake
   * select source directory
   * select destination directory and let it create it
   * push Configure
     - select "Visual Studio 15 2017 Win64"
       with default native compilers

I then get this:

    The C compiler identification is unknown
    The CXX compiler identification is unknown
    CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:35 (project):
      No CMAKE_C_COMPILER could be found.
    CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:35 (project):
      No CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER could be found.
    Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
    See also "C:/Users/tjrob/geant4.10.03/CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log".
    See also "C:/Users/tjrob/geant4.10.03/CMakeFiles/CMakeError.log".

Neither of those log files offer a clue.

I ran Visual Studio and created a test C++ project, which built and ran just fine.

How can I fix this? Why is it broke?
