Forum: Installation and Configuration

Hello,

I am having problems at configuring and installing Geant4 on my Windows 7 64-bit OS. I tried to follow the tutorial on Geant4 website carefully. I put in the same folder/directory all the needed directories, meaning the Geant4 Source directory, the related Patch Release "Geant4.10.01.p02", all the datasets (that should be already part of the Geant4 package), CLHEP libraries (that should be such as well), Xerces-C++ libraries, and WIN32 OpenGL. I figured this was the right way to allow correct configuring/generating with CMake, and then compiling with Visual Studio. The CMake and Visual Studio versions that I am using are, respectively, CMake 3.3.0-rc3 and Visual Studio 12 2013.

The first time I tried to go through all the installation procedure, I was able to configure and generate Geant4 Source files, then to compile them with Visual Studio; but, when it came to build and then run ExampleB1 (as suggested in the Tutorial on your Website - I was using the terminal, cmd.exe), it gave me errors about some missing datasets (the directories G4EMLOW, PhotonEvaporation and G4NEUTRONXS).

At a second trial, I have been given errors by CMake not at configuring, but at generating. Even if I don't include ("tick" in CMake) CLHEP libraries, Qt, GEANT4_USE_GDML_ZLIB, generating gives the warning:

"WARNING: Target "G4persistency" requests linking to directory"

where the directory is the one that includes Xerces-C++ libraries. It also says:

"Target may link only to libraries. CMake is dropping the item."

This is repeated 5 times. Now, I feel the major problem is a lack of necessary directories, like headers associated to libraries (as the above error suggests me), but I can't figure out what that is and also whether they are correctly located in the same folder as the Geant4 Source directory.

When I also tried to include CHLEP libraries, CMake told me that it cannot find them. When I ticked Qt, it told me that version 4.x is needed, but I couldn't find a download for Qt 4.x anywhere on the Web (actually, I found a link to a page that no longer exists).

I hope my long explanation does not mislead, but instead help to explain what the issue is.

Thank you very much in advance for your help,

Daniele Paradiso
