Question Very slow simulation and weird behaviour

Forum: Installation and Configuration
Date: 14 Apr, 2015
From: Alain Ferragut <Alain Ferragut>

Hi, I have finally succeeded in running my own application with G4.10 on a new machine DELL with 16 CPU E5 2650 (2GHz). But the simulation speed is very very slow compared to the same application that already worked on a DELL with 8 Xeon 5430 at 2.6 GHz, and G4.9.1. I have done some upgrade inside the code to let it work on the new machine with the new G4.10 version. The G4.10 simulation is a sequential one, same as the old machine.

When I look at the system monitor on the new machine with G4.10, I see that my application takes just a few cpu percent when it runs. And the task is called "uninterruptable" and is only "in progress" for a few second then returns to the "uninterruptable" status. During the initialization process of the application, before the "beamOn" command, the app takes 100% of one cpu, but after the beginning of the simulation, when "beamOn" is issued, then the cpu time drops down to a few percent.

I have tried some examples and they work well, using 100% time of one cpu. The new machine runs with SL6.

What could be wrong with my app ?

Thanks !
