You can force CMake to use GCC exclusively in two different ways, either
using the CMake option:

 cmake -DMAKE_COMPILER_IS_GNUCXX=ON <other-args-as-needed>

or by presetting shell variables at the (bash) command line:

 CXX=g++ CC=gcc cmake <other-args-as-needed>

Neither of these is particularly pretty, but they'll get the job done, and
you don't have to move away from the patch (which we never recommend).
