Digging more, I see that part of the problem is in qt itself:

more $QTDIR/include/QtCore/qt_windows.h gives just one line:
#include "../../src/corelib/global/qt_windows.h"

That's definitely a mistake because QT doesn't install a "src" directory.
However trying to include anything from QTDIR/include should be avoided
since the frameworks seems like the way to go:

$QTDIR/lib/QtCore.framework/Headers

for example.

Complete set of flags needed to compile G4 with Qt using frameworks is given below. Something to ponder for the future, in case Nokia decide to pull the plug off the QTDIR include

CPPFLAGS:  ' -F$QTDIR/lib   -I$QTDIR/lib/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/QtOpenGL.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/QtSql.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/QtXml.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/Qt3Support.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/QtWebKit.framework/Versions/4/Headers
-I$QTDIR/lib/QtSvg.framework/Versions/4/Headers'

LINKFLAGS: '-F$QTDIR/lib -framework QtCore -framework QtGui
-framework QtOpenGL -framework QtSql -framework QtXml
-framework QtWebKit  -framework ApplicationServices'
