You don't need to recompile Geant4, which will look for this data automatically in the location specified by the G4NEUTRONHPDATA environment variable. This should have been set queried for and set automatically when you ran the Configure script to build Geant4.

If G4NEUTRONHPDATA isn't set correctly you can simply set it yourself to the path to the location of the G4NDL3.13 dataset on your machine. For example, if you have G4NDL3.13 in /home/geant4/data/G4NDL3.13, then you would simply set G4NEUTRONHPDATA in your environment as (assuming a UNIX system):

  • (Bourne shell): export G4NEUTRONHPDATA=/home/geant4/data/G4NDL3.13
  • (C shell): setenv G4NEUTRONHPDATA /home/geant4/data/G4NDL3.13
