No, you haven't missed something, it's a slight bug in the geant4-environment-setup.sh script. This doesn't account for a non-system install location of Qt, so it doesn't set the expected QTHOME environment variable that the GNUmakefile system needs to configure a non-system install of Qt correctly.

If you set QTHOME to point to your Qt installation (should be /home/hartwig/scratch/qt by the look of things), your application should then build o.k.

I've added this as Bug #1232. Apologies for the inconvenience.
