Sad Adding $XERCESCROOT/lib paths to LD_LIBRARY_PATH directory

Forum: Installation and Configuration

From: Richard Gillham Darnley <Richard Gillham Darnley>

Hi,

I have geant4 v9.3.p01 installed on my winXP with the correct cygwin and CLHEP. This system worked when I followed the installation instructions given on the slac website.

More recently I have re-built my geant4 installation with all header files in one directory and, more specifically, I have included the GDML addon and also installed xerces with the environment variable set: "g4gdml_xercesc_root='c:/xerces/xerces-c-3.1.1-x86-windows-vc-9.0'".

However now, when I try to build an application (eg A01, MULASSIS or even G01) I repeatedly get the same linking error message at the end of the output:

"... LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'xerces-c.lib' make: *** [C:/g4work/bin/WIN32-VC/load_gdml] Error 2 "

Looking through the G01 readme file it seems to me that I have built the gdml plugin correctly and have the correctly specified the path for xerces_root as required (check out my config.sh attached below), but there remains some issue to do with adding the $XERCESCROOT/lib paths to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH directory. This requirement seems to be related to whether I am using dynamic libraries or not.

At this point I feel totally stumped...Can someone help?

I have check out the xerces webpage and they also say that I need to check that my application is linked with the correct xerces library files... "When building your own applications you need to make sure that you are linking your application with the xerces-c_3.lib (Release) and/or xerces-c_3D.lib (Debug) libraries (or the static versions of them) and also that the associated DLLs are somewhere in the executable/DLL search path (PATH)"

I do not know how to do this, can some one guide me through this? Do I need to take into account that all my libraries are installed on one location?

I will very grateful if someone can help.

Cheers,

Richard
