ld: cycle in dylib re-exports with /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.dylib

This is a known situation with OS X 10.5. One has to add the following to the compiler line - see $G4INSTALL/config/sys/Darwin-g++.gmk.

In Makefile, after
  ### OpenGL libraries GLLIBS = -lGLU -lGL -lXmu -lXext
add
  GLLIBS += -dylib_file /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib:/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib
Then make again. The excutable is ./dawn, i.e., in the download directory.

You can install in /usr/local if you have su privilege. I found that in 10.5, sudo no longer works. To get full su privilege is a little more complicated and I can advise. But if you have:

  su
  make install
or
  sudo make install
