This happens to me too. Same version geant4.8.1.p01.
I am using gcc version 4.1.1 on Fedora Core 5.
I am not sure if I am implementing the MuonMinusCaptureAtRest process corectly:
I use the ContructEM() function from ExN03 but add:
if( particleName == "mu-" ) {
    pmanager->AddRestProcess(new G4MuonMinusCaptureAtRest, 0);
}
I left the ConstructGeneral() function for decays from ExN03 unchanged.
I get no problems without the Capture process added but once I put it in,
and when the mu-'s stop in the detector volume (copper),
the CPU goes to 100% (caught in some loop) and eventually the process is killed.
