I have derived a simulation from the HadronTherapy advanced example. I use exactly the same physicsList as this example, but I have changed the geometry so that monoenergetic pencil beams are incident on a water cube of 40x40x40 cm3

I am running Geant4.8.0p1 and as a simple benchmark I am evaluating the CSDA range for different proton energy in water. For each primary protons that did not had any nuclear interaction (i.e. only electron ionisation) I record its total track length and average it on a large number of primaries. With the default physicsList, the simulation gives the exact same range as the NIST CSDA values (within 0.2 %).

However if I load the Ziegler 2000 stopping power instead of the default ICRU49, I get a large shift in CSDA range (more than 1 mm at 50 MeV and close to 3 cm for a 200 MeV proton beam). The change of stopping powers is made in the same way as the HadronTherapy example. In my macro file I replace the line

/physics/addPhysics ion-LowE

by the line

/physics/addPhysics ion-LowE-ziegler2000

The statistical uncertainty on my simulation of the CSDA Range is lower than 0.2 mm

Can someone tell me if such a large shift (i.e. 3 cm at 200 MeV and 1 mm at 50 MeV)? if not, what could cause this phenomenon?
