i am trying to find the neutron detection efficiency of a C10H13
plastic scintillator. i am using geant4.8 version.
my simulations results are compared to the theoretical results of
the efficiency calculated using this formula :
efficiency = [(n_H *Sigma_H / n_H *Sigma_H + n_C *Sigma_C )]*[1-exp(-(n_H *Sigma_H + n_C *Sigma_C )*L)]
with n_H = number of hydrogen atoms per cm^3 n_C = number of carbon atoms per cm^3 Sigma_H = elastic scaterring cross section of the neutron on Hydrogen Sigma_C = elastic scaterring cross section of the neutron on Carbon L = thickness of the scintillator
the efficiency found is that of the detection of the recoil protons (scattered)
here are the results :
1 MeV neutrons : 1-)))) formula ====> efficiency = 19 % --------------------
2-))))) simulation using my own physic list and G4HadronElasticProcess* theElasticProcess = new G4HadronElasticProcess() ; G4LElastic* theElasticModel = new G4LElastic() ; theElasticProcess->RegisterMe(theElasticModel) ;
=====> efficiency = 15.4 %
3-))))) simulation using LHEP_PRECO physic list
=====> efficiency = 29.5 %
does anyone had any idea about the differences found ?????? which physic list i should use (mine or LHEP_PRECO) ???
i don t think the problem is in my simulation code because i tried to simulate gammas in place of neutrons and i compared my results
to geant3 simulations and the results were exact
