I'm investigating the Cherenkov yield from neutron capture processes in ice and observed a discrepancy in two simulations using different Physics Lists. I did a few studies and found the discrepancy to probably originate from the overall neutron production.
The first simulation is using the Reference PhysicsList QGSP_BERT_HP and the second is build based on example Hadr06 with only a few modifications (I attached the corresponding code). In the fast checks I did I'm observing a neutron yield roughly 1.2-2 higher in the Reference PhysicsList simulation than in the Hadr06 simulation when shooting a pi+ with 10GeV and 100GeV on ice. I'm consistently observing an increased Cherenkov yield from nCapture processes for many particles and energies.
Is anyone able to pinpoint the problem here?
I'm using Geant version 10.01.p01.
