We have a simulation where we simulate the decay of excited states in nuclei. In geant4 terms these are called IT (isomeric transitions). However, they are gamma-rays emitted after a finite lifetime (order of ps). To do this in geant496p04 what we usually do is to create a decay file with IT entries that gives the states decaying with a finite lifetime the correct lifetime. Something like
P 286.7 1e-10 IT 286.7 100. P 749.9 1e-11 IT 749.9 100. P 749.9 1e-11 IT 749.9 100.
for each states we need to simulate. We then create the ions with the correct excitation energy, i.e. for this example
/gun/ion 72 170 0 749.9
and geant496p04 happily decays this ion with the correct lifetimes.
Now, in geant41002p01 the ions no longer decay unless at rest... I have modified example rdecay01 in geant496p04 and geant41002p01 to show the issue. Included are needed data files and the output of short runs for the two versions with /tracking/verbose 2. Note how for g496p04 we get decays with gamma-rays and conversion electrons but for geant41002p01 the ions happily just fly out of the world volume. You can find the files here
