Question Unexplained event

Forum: Hadronic Processes
Date: 08 Mar, 2016
From: Yusuf <Yusuf>

I'm modelling proton beam with water, and I noticed that I have few events where an event (proton with initial energy equal to 80 MeV) slow down considerably in one step and generate a secondary proton (with energy equal to 37 MeV). The primary and secondary protons got the same coordinates (x y z) initially. Then the primary proton continuo as usual and as primary event. I checked the process name which invoked during this step is “hadElastic” I’m not sure, I follow the physics here. What do you think the physics applied here? If it is non-elastic scattering, should have both protons dealt with as secondaries? as stated in proton therapy physics by Paganetti. Why there are no change in direction of the primary proton after the collision?.

I test different physics QGSP_BIC_EMY FTFP_BERT_EMY FTF_BIC and they give the same results.

Thank you in advance for your help.
