Just to clarify: you're using electrons to produce gammas, which in turn interact with a material? Are you using Geant4 9.6? From version 9.6 onward, in FTFP_BERT_HP, the Bertini cascade is assigned to G4PhotoNuclearProcess which allows it to handle the giant dipole resonance,and therefore should produce neutrons. Before version 9.6 this is not the case.
