Thank you for the response. Early on, I had suspected pions coming to rest was causing the issue; however, I could not get pi- to behave in the same way. I tried several different detector thicknesses and could not reproduce the problem. Is there a reason to expect this for pi+ decaying to mu+ and not from pi- decaying to mu-?
Also, when I transport GCR protons through G4_Al, the mu+ flux at various depths within the slab looks very strange with the 4 MeV jump. The increase in mu+ flux at low energies is enough to alter dose as well. I don't see the same jump in mu-. I've also never seen this type of behavior in muon data before.
