the correct way to define G4PVPlacement is to use the mother logical volume, as
described in the documentation.
G4PVPlacement provides also a constructor where the mother physical volume can
be used instead. This construct is just historical and obsolete, and the result is exactly
the same. exampleN05 can be corrected, I agree that it can be confusing...

I don't think this is any way related to the way you define your geometry, but eventually
to the implementation of your sensitive detector(s). I suggest you to give the details in
the "Hits, Digitization and Pileup" Forum, in case.
