I am having a problem with the subtraction of two ellipsoids (one translated a bit) to make an ellipsoidal mirror half (see pictures).
Look here http://astro.temple.edu/~whit/mirror/ . You will find two pictures. One of a spherical mirror that works fine, and another of the ellipsoidal mirror that does not work. Also, you will find a tar of the code.
I generated these pictures by swapping farMirrorSphere on line 471 with shell (which is the ellipsoidal shell piece used as a mirror).
I cannot figure out why the photons stop when the ellipsoidal mirror is used???? You can see in the spherical mirror picture that the reflected photons propagate until they leave the world volume, but the reflected photons from the ellipsoidal mirror are stopped and killed (it seems) where the subtracted part would be (look at the pictures).
I have tried to construct these mirrors a couple of different ways but nothing works. It appears to me to be a problem with the boolean subtraction.
Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED. thanks
