None readout geometry: is it useful ???

I am using a water phantom to collect the energy deposited by protons... i divided this phantom into tiny cubic voxels...

For that purpose i used a readout geometry descritpion of the detector...

As it is my first application with geant4, i was wondering if using the readout geometry is really useful... I mean does it accelerate a simulation ??? Because i understood that it was particularly useful for a detector with a complex tracking geometry and a simpler detector geometry ... As it is not my case, should i forget this read out geometry story ???

Regards. Frederic.
