Hi.

Using the pointer to G4Step, you can get the replica number like this:

G4TouchableHandle theTouchable = aStep->GetPreStepPoint()->GetTouchableHandle();
G4int repnum = theTouchable->GetReplicaNumber();

I believe this is what John meant.

Runtime interrogation of your geometry should be done through touchables, 
which can be retrieved from the G4StepPoints.  The G4VTouchable interface
can retrieve the current volume information.  You can also navigate N
levels up the volume hierarchy using the historyDepth argument, which is
an argument to most of the functions.  Be careful you don't go up too
many levels, past the world volume, as this will generally cause a crash.
