it may well be that this problem is induced by a commbination of your
geometry causing overlaps, such that the optimisation fails to complete.
I would suggest you to try with the DAVID graphical tool (and avoid the
call to geometry/test/grid_test) to see if you can identify the
problematic portion of your geometry in one of the combinations where
it fails.
