Well...You can always program a UI command:

  G4UImanager::GetUIpointer->ApplyCommand("/gps/direction 1 .5 .3");

The other way would be to look at the header files and figure out how to set the direction. But I have to say that after a few minutes investigation I could not figure this out. The GPS is, I think, intended only to be used via commands - or programmed commands as above.
