Hello Sveta,

I would guess that your problem depends on the relative size of your 
setup (S) versus the typical size of the random holes (s): if s/S << 1 
and if particles cross many holes then an average material should make 
it. I would guess also that the approximation of small holes inside a 
dense material is better than the opposite case (small material parts 
inside vacuum): in your case, the particle behavior (energy, angular 
dispersion, etc.) will be dominated by the dense material, the small 
holes should change only the ballistic of the particles, making them 
flying on small straight lines from time to time when inside the holes.

If your problem turns to be more complicated than that, other solutions 
can be considered (eg: layered mass geometry), but require of course a 
bit more work.
