None over-estimation of HPGe detector efficiency

I am constructing a coaxial detector of length 64mm with a hole of depth 47mm.For that I am using a solid and a hollow cylinder respectively and keeping the former on the latter .Is it better to use subtraction solid as in stepping action I am giving the "or" condition of energy deposition between the two of them ?
