I also tried to use the schema(s) that is in the geant4.9.3.p01 directory geant4.9.3.p01/source/persistency/gsml/schema.

The new line in the gdml file is:

<gdml xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="/geant/geant4.9.3.p01/source/persistency/gdml/schema/gdml.xsd">

This time the result is odd,

root [6] TGeoManager::Import("TestWriteNewSchema.gdml"); Info: TGeoManager::Import : Reading geometry from file: TestWriteNewSchema.gdml

Error in <TXMLEngine::ParseFile>: Unexpected end of xml file
Error in <TGeoManager::Import>: Cannot open file
root [7]

The only change I made was to replace the old gdml schema def with the new one, that is, I replaced

<gdml xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://service-spi.web.cern.ch/service-spi/app/releases/GDML/schema/gdml.xsd">

with

<gdml xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="/geant/geant4.9.3.p01/source/persistency/gdml/schema/gdml.xsd">

In both files the last lines are,

  <setup name="Default" version="1.0">
    <world ref="World"/>
  </setup>

</gdml>

Thanks, Mike
