Click on the Forum title, e.g. on the "Forums by Category" page, to read a sequence of postings to the Forum and its threads all in one page. Thank you for the answer, but the method of calculating the mean free path in this example is not valid for my setup.
There is a thick ('infinite') material, thus all incident particles interact with it sooner or later, and then their track length is being averaged.
This is a simulation of a real physical experiment, where we assume that we don't know mean free path until we calculate average track length on a large sample.
The material in my setup is neither infinite, nor even thicker than the mean free path, so interactions of incident particle with it are quite rare. And what I want to do is to get calculated mean free path from intrinsic Geant functions.
Obviously, Geant calculates somehow the probability of interaction with given material: P = 1 - exp (- layerThickness/meanFreePath) So I want to get this meanFreePath value.
