I am trying to simulate the the new Fermilab g-2 experiment, in which polarized muons from pion decay are injected into a storage ring and allowed to decay. The distribution of electrons from polarized muon decay is essential to this modeling. So far I have gotten pions to decay into polarized muons, and I can track the polarized muons and watch their spins precess correctly in the storage ring. But I cannot figure out how to handle muon decay with polarization.
How do I use G4DecayWithSpin and G4MuonDecayChannelWithSpin? Or other related classes?
Does anybody have an example of correctly handling polarized muon decay?
Note that G4DecayWithSpin appears to make a very risky assumption that all decay channels are instances of G4MuonDecayChannelWithSpin -- in DecayIt() the code does a C-style cast to G4MuonDecayChannelWithSpin*, and then calls G4MuonDecayChannelWithSpin::SetPolarization() via the pointer. That function is specific to G4MuonDecayChannelWithSpin, so any other type of decay channel will send the program off to never-never land.
