Question Globaltime always equals to zero

I want to obtain the characteristics of a particle when it passes through a new layer. I need to know the position, the time, the energy...So I get the information from a step. It works for position and other variables but not for the time (global, local, proper).
Here is a part of the code :
  G4StepPoint*  PostStepPoint= aStep->GetPostStepPoint(); 
  G4StepPoint*  PreStepPoint= aStep->GetPreStepPoint(); 

  G4double time = (PostStepPoint->GetGlobalTime() ) / nanosecond;
  G4cout <<"time in stepping action = " << time << G4endl;

We compile with different versions of GEANT4 and the result is always 0 !!! Someone could help me please Diane
