Question Random number generation in CLHEP::HepRandom

Forum: Event and Track Management
Date: 15 Jul, 2010
From: Neil Fazel <Neil Fazel>

I've noticed that in a run with N events, a call to CLHEP::HepRandom::showEngineStatus() displays a different pair of seeds for each event in the run; this is as expected. But sometimes, from run to run, I get the same set of seeds (i.e. event N has same seed in consecutive runs) and sometimes I don't. How does this work? I My runs yesterday had same seeds and produced same results, which differ from my runs today. I would appreciate any explanation of how this works.

Thanks, Neil
