Question Tracking Cuts

Keywords: Tracking Particle Cuts
Forum: Event and Track Management
Date: 09 Dec, 2002
From: Chris Savage <savage@neutrino.physics.ucsb.edu>

I have been tracking muons using my own G4VProcess derived processes. I set the cuts with SetCutsWithDefault() in my G4VUserPhysicsList; from the source code, it appears this gives a range cut of 1.0 mm. It also appears the conversion to energy cuts (again looking at the source code for G4ParticleWithCuts) is independent of processes attached to a particular particle, so the muon should still have some valid energy cut (I could be wrong here; correect me if I am). However, when running my simulation, it tracked a muon down to a kinetic energy of 1.24e-322 MeV without making a cut (I had to kill the process).

My question is this: Are any of the managers, such as the TrackingManager, responsible for terminating tracks when the particle goes below its threshold, or do I need to have one of my processes make these cuts itself? Or maybe I am missing something?
