None too many optical photons

Hi all, I am doing a simulation with a quasi-infinite scintillating crystal (NaI) and investigating the number of both the scintillating and cerenkov photons created with high energy beams (~10-1000 GeV). The NaI has a scintillationyield of 38 photons/keV. At GeV energy levels, the simulation realy takes long long cpu time. I am looking ways to make this faster. I would appreciate any suggestions.

thanks a lot in advance. ahmet.

ps: I am not (at this time) interested in tracking of these optical photons.
All I care is the number of photons created.
