 OK, now I look more carefully at the source code at 

 and realize that final-state proton is hard-coded as being at rest in ;8-(

  // daughter 2 (proton) at REST
  G4ThreeVector direction2(0.0, 0.0, 0.0);
  G4DynamicParticle * daughterparticle2 
         = new G4DynamicParticle( daughters[2], direction2);

 That, of course, decreases the usefulness of the G4 code, and will
 force me to write a new version of NeutronBetaDecayChannel code
 where the proton kinetic energy properly varies from 0->780 eV
 in the phase space manner.
