Question PrimaryGeneratorAction: Why setting Particle Time Slows Down Simulation?

Forum: Event and Track Management
Date: 21 Jul, 2014
From: Matt McIntyre <Matt McIntyre>

I am having some difficulty in understanding the effect of setting the particle time in the PrimaryGeneratorAction class. i.e.,

gun->SetParticleTime(someTime);

seems to effect the speed at which the events are processed. if someTime is a large number (order of a fewseconds to 10E+9 seconds, events are processed quickly, if it is very small (10E-6 to 10E-9 seconds) they take over 5 times as long to process.

Why is this? And should I set this to some optimum value?

Thank you,

Matt
