Only the example is new in V10. It has "always" been possible to use the G4ParticleGun in conjunction with C++ code to do what GPS does.

With GPS the advantage is that you don't have to code anything yourself. Mind you, the GPS is currently not very well supported since we have lost the responsible developers, so the disadvantage in using GPS is that Forum support may be limited if GPS isn't behaving as you expect.

I prefer C++ in conjunction with G4ParticleGun because in that case I know what I have coded.
